Hi, I’m Skye Fernandez, a Tucson native raised on the South and East sides. I attended Gridley Middle School, University High, and the University of Arizona, where I studied economics, sociology, and French as a 2007 Dorrance Scholar.
I have a dedicated career of more than 15 years in education, and now I’m running for the TUSD Governing Board because I believe school boards should be about public service. Our schools deserve leaders who have spent their careers supporting students.
It’s time for school board leadership rooted in classrooms, not campaigns.
Join me in building a stronger future for Tucson students.

Public schools exist to serve students and families, not district bureaucracies. When district leaders are overly focused on administration , parent trust erodes and student outcomes suffer. My mission is to focus on:
1) student needs, outcomes, and success,
2) then parent and teacher supports,
3) and finally administrative frameworks as a means to achieve those efforts

Students do best when they’re learning from experienced, well-supported teachers, and educators are most effective when unnecessary bureaucracy is kept to a minimum. District leaders must help navigate state and federal requirements so teachers can focus on what matters most: educating our students.

Parents and students should be co-authors of our district’s long-term vision, not an afterthought. I will fight to give parent-led advisory councils meaningful oversight of major district initiatives and dedicated seats on key decision-making committees. Parents and students deserve full transparency and access to educational materials, from the district office to the classroom.
Great schools require partnership between families, educators, students, and the community.
Strong public schools help build informed citizens and healthier communities.
Improvement happens through trust, collaboration, and shared purpose - not force, fear, or top-down mandates.
Educators do their best work when they are supported as professionals, not buried in bureaucracy.
